Dental Surgeries

Colchester Dental Care (formerly The Tooth Place)

12 St Botolph's St, Colchester CO2 7DU, UK – 01206 369701

excellent service and professional dentist. very pleased with the service provided by dentist. dentist is very thorough with exceptionally calm attitude and has a lovely smile which made me more relaxed. always ready to fit me in when i am in pain. overall thumps up and do recommend to all.

I was waiting outside for them to open with chronic toothache on a Monday morning with no appointment in agony. They ushered me in upon opening and said I was welcome to wait and they would see me as soon as a slot was available. Before my behind had barely touched the seat I was whisked away and not even ten minutes later was pain free and minus an infected molar. Speedy and professional service and I am eternally grateful that I was accommodated so quickly and kindly.

North Hill Dental

46 N Hill, Colchester CO1 1PY, UK – 01206 577912

I am so pleased I found this dental surgery. Everyone from the receptionists to the dental surgeons are so friendly and professional and for the first time in a while I am happy to return to the same practice knowing they will do the very best for me. I would definitely recommend North Hill dental practice (& have recently done so).

Amazing staff, very lovely and polite reception team. Excellent telephone manner, helpful in arranging a convenient appointment time. Nurses and Dentist are so caring and bubbly. Dr. Sedani is amazing dentist I've ever come across no BS straight to point. Quick and efficient, saw me at short notice and sorted everything out. 11 out of 10.

Prettygate Dental

306 Mersea Rd, Colchester CO2 8QY, UK – 01206 548386

I came to Prettygate dental as I had been having problems for months that my previous dentist did not resolve. Service was brilliant, the dentist gave me antibiotics which helped immediately with the pain, did a filling and referred me for wisdom tooth removal. He was knowledable and very helpful in resolving my problems. Fantastic experience after much frustration with my previous dentist. Will definitely be returning and would recommend to anyone needing a dentist in the Colchester area. Thank you prettygate dental

Very good dentist

North Hill Surgery Dr Hochstein & Partners

18 North Hill, Colchester CO1 1DZ, UK – 01206 578070

While some of my friends and family find it difficult to find a doctor willing to listen to them and to suggest more than taking paracetamol, I found here one of the best GPs I have ever talked to. Dr. Claire Cooper always pays attention, takes one's worries seriously, listens carefully and sent me for future medical investigations every time it was the case. I think she does a brilliant job and I am happy that there are still people like her in the NHS.

Wimpole Road Surgery

52 Wimpole Rd, Colchester CO1 2DL, UK – 01206 794794

I've had excellent and thorough care from the GPs I've seen at Wimpole Road Surgery.

Found this surgery to be very good! The Receptionists are very friendly and welcoming and take time with patients. The doctors and nursing staff listen to the ailments which are troubling you and recommend different options. Have had many health problems and these have been treated well and involved specialist treatments. The one doctor I found condescending and rude was a female elder doctor who has thankfully now left. Wonderful place and the fact you can book appointments and prescriptions online makes life easier.

Dr S Senthilnathan - Mill Road Surgery

47 Mill Rd, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5LE, UK – 01206 845900

Very pleasant visit to Dr Sumitha, she took time to listen to my knee problem ,examined carefullu and explained the causes and gave proper instructions. Changed my opinion on nhs.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

Oaks Hospital

120 Mile End Rd, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5XR, UK – 01206 752121

Just been in the oak for postrate surgery with Mr sam datta this place rocks it's perfect in every way possible the nurses are fantastic along with all the admin and catering foods amazing ok down to Mr sam datta the man is top in his game got me in and done in under 2 weeks can't thank the man enoght after been in left waiting for months on the nhs with a catheter fitted not nice so a big thank you to all at the oaks and a big thank you to Mr sam datta

I have had surgery at 4 other private hospitals. This was the least comfortable. Pre op I was in placed in a bay, not a room, with a hard uncomfortable chair, no window and no tv. After surgery was returned to the bay and left on a very uncomfortable trolley, not a bed. Won’t be returning for surgery in a hurry.

Essex County Hospital

Lexden Rd, Colchester CO3 3NB, UK – 01206 747474

Staff is very helpful, kind and professional. It was very easy to find my way and to get the instructions needed. The building is very old and historical which automatically means some renovation may be needed, but nevertheless good service.

I would like to say thank you so much for the care I have had...second to none. Yes the car park isn't the best but they are always helpful and try to find you a space, but it's the medical care that is important to me and it's been wonderful in the eye clinic...thank you Dr Bansal...he told me what was happening the whole way through the procedure...the nurses were patient, kind, attentive...I can't say enough about everyone involved...during the procedure I had someone hold my hand the whole way through...I can't tell you how reassuring this was...it helped me to relax....I can see again, drive again....I have my life back thanks you everyone...Elizabeth Norton

The Lakes Mental Health Hospital

Turner Rd, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5JL, UK – 01206 228712

I've done several stints of rehab here and whilst the later hospital is more locked down, clinical treatment is good and if you are scared, violent and have to be restrained, this is done with the minimum force, no deliberate brutality. It's cheaper than The Priory, so if you've gone on a trip you can't get yourself down from, ring their number and ask to speak with a crisis team or ask your GP to refer you. It can be very scary due to the nature of patients being emotionally disturbed. My only gripe is there is understaffing and presumably the pay isn't great for the staff so they need longer hours, which doesn't help this most highly stressed situation. Another problem I've encountered is issues surrounding section paperwork. You are entitled to legal representation and advocacy if you are to be held in a rehab facility against your will, this is not always forthcoming. Worst still patients under section have been asked to sign other paperwork, including adoption forms, immigration, criminal confession and other life changing issues when they are legally not in the capability to sign them. Essex Social Services are the most regular breakers of that law and this needs to be exposed. That said, there's a good community spirit among the patients/inmates (if it's got locks it's by definition a prison) , and great chances to learn from each other as well as the excellent staff and community volunteers of all grades. You can learn a lot there, it would be a good place to learn about mental health and Anglia Ruskin University has used the facility in in-work training schemes for nurses and doctors.

Local hospitals - community hospitals and hospitals with A&E departments for CO1 1PY.

The new NHS website below is very well worth a look. Hospitals are not only listed but evaluated. I certainly know which ones I would go to! At the very least you will know what questions to ask if you are sent to one which has not entered its data. Good luck!

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Pizza Hut Restaurants

Turner Rise Retail Park, Turner Rd, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5JR, UK – 01206 546545

Just loved it. The restaurant was full as you would expect on a Saturday at lunch time. Staff could not be more friendly and accommodating. Service was fast and the cola endless. Two large pizzas with all the salad you can eat plus all the cola you can drink cost just over £40. Not cheap by any means but for a treat just right.

Love Pizza Hut. Quick, friendly service and yummy food. Ideal with 3 young children! Disappointed some of our favourite salad items have been removed but the waiter took time to explain to us why.

Il Padrino Restaurant

11 Church St, Colchester CO1 1NF, UK – 01206 366699

Don't be fooled by an uninspiring exterior, once in (provided you've booked at peak times), you will not be disappointed. The quirky layout over 3 floors varying hugely in ambience all add to the charm of this Italian restaurant. Food served was piping hot, well presented and delicious. Service was quick and staff were attentive. Although Italian this is not a pizzeria, so go elsewhere for that!

Yes, another true and authentic Italian restaurant in Colchester - love it. Food is real, authentic Italian with real Italian ingredients and way of cooking. Atmosphere is lovely and staff is even better. Cook is delightful and kind. Will absolutely come back. Highly recommend to those who wish to experience authentic and real Italian food.

Colchester High School & Nursery

15 Wellesley Rd, Colchester CO3 3HD, UK – 01206 573389

My daughter recently started at the High School in Reception and I can already see a difference in her- she’s so much more confident in herself and her academic progress has been remarkable. The staff have been very welcoming and the communication with parents is first class. The children are being given a really well rounded education and my daughter always comes home with lots of positive stories about her friends and the things she has learnt. I highly recommend this school!

At the time of writing my son is in the reception class at Colchester High School and my daughter is in the nursery. I cannot fault this school and am genuinely grateful for all it has done so far to help my kids, particularly my son settle into their education. Children are seen as individuals here and the teaching is excellent with full differentiation to ensure each child reaches their potential academically. There is also a strong emphasis on sport starting from nursery age which my two absolutely thrive on. With its quirky array of somewhat charming Victorian buildings that lay home to so many wonderful staff and students, the school is a very welcoming place. I feel as though my family are part of a warm and friendly community that will always do its best to guide our kids through the most impressionable years of their life. A positive buzz runs though the school at all times and from what I can see, this stems from the school’s ability to create happy confident kids with good values. The interaction between different year groups is a lovely thing to see. At the school disco, my four year old son was chatting to a group of eight year olds. They all know each other and are all friends! A great place :)
